Tools to Prevent and Provide Notice of Identity Theft

Recovery from identity theft is a long and traumatic experience. In an effort to minimize some of the impact, a new Identity Theft Statement is being introduced as a standard for Canada. The Identity Theft Statement was developed by a Working Group of the Consumer Measures Committee (CMC), which is made up of the federal, provincial, and territorial governments in collaboration with consumer groups and private sector stakeholders. Credit Union Central of Canada and the Canadian Bankers Association represented the financial sector on this Working Group.
